Replacement or Repair

Like most things, all electrical equipment that is subject to repetitive use will eventually wear out. This is especially true of fittings and switches in high use areas such as kitchens, bedrooms and bathrooms.

Broken fittings could have exposed electrical components so replacement should be a top priority!

Our safety-conscious electricians will offer a free Home Electrical Safety Inspection at the start of your job to identify any potential issues and provide solutions or replacement options.

Common Problems

Do your indoor switches, outlets or fittings have any of these issues? If so, get in touch with Kenner Electrics today to arrange an inspection and replacement.

Crackling or flashing when used – this is a sign that there is damage to the electrical components behind the switch plate. If this is occurring then the switch is near the end of its life and should be replaced for safety reasons
Yellowing – yellowed switches or fittings may still be functional, but they aren’t very aesthetically pleasing!
Spongey feeling or switch not sitting correctly – the indicates that the switch mechanism is broken and requires replacement
Cracked – this was common in older style switchgear and poses a safety risk as it could break open and expose live components
Not working – this indicates that the switch or fitting is faulty, or that there are damaged cables behind the switch
Switch won’t move – the switch mechanism in the switch is faulty and requires replacement
Flickering lights – this is often caused by a faulty dimmer, or a dimmer that is incompatible with modern LED lighting
Crooked or loose switches/power outlets – power outlets on tiled splashbacks are especially prone to coming loose. This makes them more difficult to use, and is also a risk because the switch or power outlet could fall off and expose live components
Broken light fitting or exposed wiring – damaged light fittings could have exposed live components, causing a risk of electric shock for anyone that touches the fitting
Globe stuck – If a globe is stuck in a light fitting, there is a risk that it may shatter and leave sharp edges in the fitting. There is also a risk of electric shock if you touch the metal components within the fitting.
Not firmly secured to ceiling – if you have a pendant light, chandelier or ceiling fan that is not firmly secured to the ceiling, there is a risk that it may fall. To create a secure fixing point in the ceiling, additional timber supports may be required to be installed in the ceiling for the fitting to be secured to.
