Outdoor power point installation needs electrical cable running to the outlet. It's important that any cables installed outside are properly protected from the weather and possible damage.

Conduit Protection

Cables require proper protection when they are exposed to sunlight or installed in areas where they are likely to be disturbed. Protection can be provided by installing the cables inside walls, or through conduit.

Some common problems with conduit protection (or lack of) include;

No cable protection – if cables are exposed in accessible areas, there is a risk of damage.
Conduit not UV rated – if the cable is installed in conduit outside, it must be UV rated conduit otherwise the conduit will deteriorate over time and cease providing adequate protection
Conduit not waterproof – if the cable is installed in conduit outside, it must be waterproof to prevent water from entering and tripping the circuit
Conduit is damaged – this may be an indicator that the cables inside the conduit are also damaged

Degraded – electrical fittings and switchgear can degrade over time, especially if exposed to sunlight.
Cracked – cracked fittings and switchgear are susceptible to water entry, which may cause short circuits. Cracking may also indicate that the structural integrity of the fitting is compromised, or that live parts may be exposed.
Damaged – all sorts of things can damage electrical fittings or switches, such as stray balls, removalists or rodents/pests.
