Solving indoor air quality issues with proper ducted ventilation
A family in Murrumbeena got in touch with Kenner Electrics after noticing that both of their bathroom exhaust fans and their kitchen rangehood were venting directly into the ceiling cavity. This setup is surprisingly common in older homes and renovations — but it’s far from ideal. Without proper ducting to the outside, steam and cooking fumes get trapped in the roof space, which can lead to mould growth, poor indoor air quality, and long-term damage to insulation and roof timbers.
They wanted a better solution to protect their home and keep the indoor air feeling clean and fresh.
High-Performance Bathroom Exhaust Fan Installation
New ducted ceiling fans rated for long runs and powerful extraction
We began with a Home Electrical Safety Inspection (HSI) to make sure everything else in the home was safe and up to standard. From there, we replaced both bathroom fans with high-powered ductable ceiling exhaust fans, each rated at 349m³/hr — strong enough for long duct runs and perfect for removing steam from hot showers quickly and effectively. These were ducted through to low-profile roof cowls, with up to 6 metres of ducting installed through the tiled roof.

Proper Roof Ducting for Healthier Bathrooms
Weather-sealed roof cowls allow safe and efficient steam removal
We made sure all roof penetrations were sealed securely, keeping the home weatherproof while allowing hot, moist air to escape efficiently. A properly ducted bathroom fan can make a huge difference in preventing mould and keeping bathrooms drier and more comfortable.

Kitchen Rangehood Ducted to the Roof
Removing cooking fumes and grease with compliant roof venting
We also installed new ducting for the kitchen rangehood, directing it out through a roof cowl to remove steam, smoke, and grease particles from cooking. This not only improves indoor air quality but also helps protect cabinetry, paintwork, and ceiling finishes from built-up residue. When cooking fumes are properly extracted, the home stays fresher and more hygienic — especially in open-plan kitchen layouts.
Long-Term Benefits of Ducted Ventilation Systems
Protect your home from hidden moisture and improve air quality
Correctly installed ventilation systems do more than just keep things smelling fresh — they help prevent structural damage caused by trapped moisture, reduce the risk of mould and mildew, and improve the overall comfort of the home. By upgrading to ducted systems, this Murrumbeena family can now enjoy cleaner air, drier bathrooms, and peace of mind knowing their roof cavity isn’t silently absorbing moisture.
The customer was thrilled with the result and left this lovely feedback:
“Great professional service. Took the time to explain the job and the different options available. Very honest approach… Would definitely use again and recommend.”
